Sometimes the education system isn’t perfect and when the teachers refuse to take action or listen to your complaining, a complaint letter to school board members is in order. There are a lot of reasons that one might feel contacting the school board is necessary but usually a complaint letter to school board members is about a teacher. If it’s a particular class, be sure to include which class and how the problem has affected the student.
Identify the school and which class the concerned parent is writing to complain about.
If a specific teacher is involved in the matter, make sure to include them and what the problem is.
Tell the board what you would like done about the situation.
If other parents are concerned as well, feel free to include their names and their contact information if they permit to do so.
Sample LettersDear Dr. Richards:
I’m writing to you on behalf of myself and two other concerned parents because we feel that there’s a lack of education in your school (Triad High School). Mrs. Hennesy for weeks now has been sending back poorly graded mathematics papers and overnight assignments that are troubling for me, because I was a Math major in college and I double check all of my son’s work.
Some of the questions that Mrs. Hennesy are marking wrong are in fact right and the supporting work is being shown. I have tried several sit down discussions with Hennesy and the principal and the situation is not improving. I don’t understand what’s going on here, and if perhaps Hennesy is singling out a few students in her class or if she honestly has no idea what she’s doing.
I’ve attached copies of letters and conversations I’ve had with both the teacher and the principal that have failed to get anything done. I would like to see a new teacher come in place of Mrs. Hennesy so that our children’s mathematical knowledge isn’t in jeopardy.
Also, the name and numbers of two other concerned parents as well if you’d like to hear their opinion as well.
Mrs. Roberts – 921-1029
