Frequently Asked Questions

We offer special “bundle” packages for the first visit. There are many types of first appointments, but regardless of what you are seeking, our specials are up to 50% off our standard fees. After your first visit, we will go over the costs of any proposed dental work up front. Your teeth are one of the best investments you can make for yourself and we will definitely help you plan it out the best we can.

If you have a Full Mouth Series (composed of 18 films known as bitewings and periapicals) that is clear enough for the doctor to evaluate, then we can use them. Any other circumstances (unclear images, missing films, etc.) and x-rays will definitely have to be taken for new patient appointments.

Coronavirus has reminded many of the risk that comes with any infectious disease. In all health care industries, including dentistry, protecting patients and team members from disease has always been a priority. Dr. Le and the Bowery Dental team have consistently adhered to strict guidelines set by the American Dental Association to ensure your protection. This includes:

Children, teens, and adults should all see the dentist for a regular checkup at least once every 6 months. Patients who are at a higher risk for oral cancer or gum disease may be required to see the dentist more than twice a year. Our doctor will advise you at your first appointment on how often she recommends you return for regular checkups.

Yes. Even if you don’t have any symptoms, you can still have dental health problems that only a dentist can diagnose. Routine dental visits will also help prevent these problems from developing. Continuity of care is an important part of any health care plan, and dental health is no exception.

Keeping your mouth healthy is essential to your overall health. It’s also important to keep us informed of any changes in your health or medical history, since many medical conditions can affect your dental health and vice versa.

The first visit includes a comprehensive exam, x-rays and usually a cleaning. There is no particular order, the step-by-step varies per patient. The dentist or hygienist will ask about your recent medical history and dental hygiene habits. One of the dental assistants will take the necessary x-rays as determined by the doctor.

Since you are a new patient, our doctor will likely advise taking a full series of X-rays to assess your current oral health and use it as a baseline going forward. The hygienist may then use a special dental instrument to check the health of your gum and perform a cleaning procedure. The dentist will evaluate your overall dental health and develop a detailed treatment plan for you. Please bring any recent x-rays or have them emailed to us at info@bowerydental.com. Also bring your retainers, mouthguards, dentures or any prosthesis you may have.

Radiographs, commonly known as X-rays, are an important and safe tool to help our doctor properly diagnose your oral health needs. Dental X-rays are used to diagnose disease, injury of the teeth and gums, as well as help with treatment planning. X-rays allow doctors to:

Dental X-rays only require low levels of radiation exposure, which makes the risk of potentially harmful effects very small. Dental X-ray tools and techniques are designed to limit the body’s exposure to radiation.

Precaution is taken to ensure that radiation exposure is As Low As Reasonably Achievable (the ALARA principle). A leaded apron minimizes exposure to the abdomen and is to be worn by all patients while the x-rays are being captured.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children go to see a dentist when the first tooth erupts in the mouth, usually no later than age one to two. A checkup will be performed, but there will be no dental X-rays taken.

Yes. It is safe to see a dentist when you are pregnant. Make sure to tell the dentist that you are pregnant and about any changes you have noticed in your oral health. In some cases, pregnancy can actually make some dental problems worse. That’s why it is important to continue to visit the dentist during pregnancy for oral examinations and professional teeth cleanings. We may even recommend you to come in more often than you do regularly.

A regular cleaning is usually performed in the first visit and following dental checkup and cleaning appointments. Regular cleanings are for patients with ideal gum health and oral hygiene home care.

Deep cleaning is generally advised for patients with less than ideal gum health and lack of proficient oral hygiene home care. This means that the patient’s gum pocket levels are so deep that basic home care tools such as flossing and brushing would be less effective than for others. If all four quadrants are recommended, the deep cleaning appointments are usually divided into 2 visits. This way, the patient would only be numb on one side of the mouth at a time to ensure a more comfortable deep cleaning experience.
